With 10,200 employees operating in 40 countries, the VELUX Group decided that to serve their customers effectively they needed to move from a hierarchical, siloed organization to a global matrix. This required a shift of culture and behaviours (e.g. attitude to risk, control and cooperation), and developing a common skill set, mindset and language throughout the organization for working in a matrix. For many, this meant a loss of control, but with higher levels of accountability, and a corresponding need for more innovative ways of working. Global Integration has supported the VELUX Group on this mission since 2014, and they have embraced the changes required.

Multiple programmes have run since 2014 including: ‘Light Up Leadership’ for the Top 100 leaders, ‘Making the Matrix Work’ for the Top 100 Supply Chain and ‘Passion for business’ for over 400 managers across the globe (and counting), focusing on areas such as how to:
- Understand the VELUX Matrix organization and the reasons behind it
- Embrace different perspectives, apply a constructive approach to reach common goals and solve challenges and dilemmas
- Influence through knowledge and insight rather than formal reporting lines
- Network – getting (only) the right people “around the table” to ensure accountability and effective decision making
- Lead in a business environment with increasing ambiguity and pace of change
Delivered through a mix of keynotes and 2-day workshops with context setting from senior leaders, online learning and virtual follow-ups, plus cohort communities created on Yammer.
