Sustainable productivity when working from home – what’s next

Many organisations have seen improvements in productivity from people working from home over the last 12 months, but these have often been bought at the expense of longer hours and the blurring of boundaries between home and work. As we move into a longer term period of remote and hybrid working, many of our clients are trying to help their people develop more sustainable patterns of work that allow for long term productivity but also incorporate healthy habits around renewal and work life balance.

To grasp this opportunity to develop a new way of working we each need to take ownership; we cannot expect other people to define how we will work in our own homes or what works best for us as individuals. We need to develop our own preferences and communicate and negotiate these with the people we work with, and sometimes with our families or housemates too.

Our new webinar “sustainable productivity when working from home” focuses on two key themes

  1. Managing boundaries, transitions between home and work, and work life balance. Blurring boundaries between home and work has helped people accommodate the needs to look after family and cope in a pandemic, but it can also cause overwork and conflict between our different home and work roles. We look at tools for managing transitions between home and work, how much work life integration works for you, and how to establish boundaries in space and time when working from home
  2. Designing your own productive and sustainable pattern of work – practical strategies to both sustain productivity and manage renewal. We look at the research on how to organise your work productively around natural body rhythms and how to manage distractions when working from home. We also give some practical tools and tips on how to incorporate healthy habits around breaks and other forms of renewal and how to make sure you take them.
