Matrix management: we are all project managers now
Having led the way in matrix working, project managers have some real opportunities in this more complex and connected world, argues Kevan Hall for the Arras People ‘How to Manage a Camel’ blog.
The matrix structure evolved from the need to manage very complex projects in the aerospace industry in the 1970s. The growing importance of project management was fuelled by the need to get things done irrespective of the reporting structure of the people involved. But now that this form of horizontal working is becoming the norm in large complex organizations there are implications for project management.
