Matrix Monday: Matrix is the Ladder to Success
Continuing our Matrix Monday series which summarises some of the limited available literature on the matrix, today we take a fresh look at “Matrix is the Ladder to Success”, an article on Bloomberg’s Business Week published in August 2009.
Despite the somewhat off putting title, this short Business Week debate on the pros and cons of matrix management remains interesting and pertinent today. It’s based around a single question: Multi-dimensional organizational design is the best way to restructure a business. Pro or con?
Jay R. Galbraith points at some successful matrix examples to argue ‘pro’, “Look at the track record”. Looking at the record himself, Guido Quelle argues ‘con’, “Matrix Impedes Progress”.
Which way would you argue, and why?
