I will away be on holiday from 3rd to 13th April and will not be posting over this period. I also won’t be checking emails or phone calls (a colleague will screen my calls for anything urgent – but I don’t expect anything). Here is the view from my hotel room in the spirit of sharing :-)
In 14 years of running my own business, with colleagues and clients around the world I think I have only once taken a business call on holiday. Family time can be scarce for people with busy careers and many large companies are very demanding of our time, but you can take control of your time, set ground rules and stick to them. If you don’t you can’t expect anyone else to do it for you.
I am sure I will hear many urgent calls made and received by my neighbours on the sunbeds next week. Some of them sound so trivial I cannot believe they have interrupted their holiday, for others I wonder if they have heard of delegation?
Have a good week and if your colleagues are on holiday – leave them alone.
