The Role - Working with us
We are interested in hearing from people who want to be considered for our next opportunity. This is likely to be for a US East Coast opportunity in the second half of 2008.
There are four major components of our Consultant roles:
- Business development. Consistent sales, marketing and account development to generate work for yourself and for new consultants joining the team. If you have an aptitude for sales, this can become a growing part of your role.
- Service delivery. This means delivering consulting/training programs via face-to-face, eLearning, blended or through intellectual property sales to your clients. Reaching your financial target entirely through delivering face-to-face training would require 90-100 days of training delivery.
- Account management. You will be expected to ensure client expectations are met, keep clients up to date on new programs and intellectual property developments, and provide an overall level of service that ensures long term, growing relationships.
- Program development. Development of new intellectual property and programs in the area of working in complex organizations.
Your first 12 to 18 months will focus on a balance between sales and marketing to build your own accounts and services delivery to an existing (and gradually your own) client base. Our business model does not use dedicated sales or dedicated training delivery consultants. We believe a combined role is both more interesting and more challenging. However, you can expect support from your more experienced colleagues, who have a financial incentive to refer work to you.
The role will initially be focused on learning the programs and skills needed to be effective. Your existing skill-set will determine the extent of your training on external/ internal sales, facilitation, and delivery skills. Learning the content of our programs is largely done by co-training with experienced consultants, and through our internal materials. Initially, be prepared to spend a lot of time observing and assisting in delivering.
As your client base matures, your focus will turn towards services delivery, account development and building long term, stable relationships with our clients, which are primarily very large organizations. Repeat business and superb client servicing is key to our success.
How We Work Together
All of our consultants work from home. We see this as a benefit but it also requires working discipline. We will provide the systems, technology, training and marketing infrastructure you need. We usually deliver services at clients’ sites so regular travel, both international and domestic, is part of the role.
We work remotely but try to maintain our community using regular contact through technology and face-to-face team meetings (two 4-day global team meetings plus one regional team meeting per year).
Working from home offers great flexibility on where you live. As long as you can reach an international airport within a reasonable amount of time, location is not usually an issue. Because we have existing consultants on the west coast and in the south, we would prefer this role to be based on the east coast.
Who we are looking for
We are a small organization, established in 1994 with seven consultants and two support staff in Europe and three consultants and one support person in the U.S.
We look for the following qualities in our consultants:
CAPABILITY - We need consultants who can develop new business and design and deliver consulting and training services to groups of managers working in complex companies. Usually our clients are complex and global companies working across barriers of distance, culture, time and/or technology. We have a series of existing core programs but these can be tailored according to your clients’ needs. You will be involved in face-to-face services delivery so excellent communication and facilitation skills are crucial.
CREDIBILITY – Our clients are some of the world’s best companies and our clients are usually middle- and senior-level managers. You will need to project credibility to these audiences and build a connection through your own corporate experience and understanding. Your background will include experience working in complex, matrixed and virtual orgnaizations and living in at least two countries. You should have at least a Bachelor’s degree. Capability in a foreign language, particularly Spanish, is highly preferred.
Candidates That Have Been Successful in the past
Candidates who have been successful in the past have been attracted by the flexibility and style of working for a small international organization, compared to a more structured and controlled career in a large organization. They have come from world-class companies with significant international line management experience.
Our consultants have come from a range of industries and functional backgrounds. Although not mandatory, we have a preference for this U.S.-based Senior Consultant to have a human resources/training/management development background,

Our Culture
Global Integration’s culture is based around 5 key practices:
Quality - Our customers are some of the world’s best companies and we need to meet their standards of quality. Repeat business is the major measure of our success and we achieve this level of client satisfaction by practicing what we preach. If we do not believe client work has the potential for high quality results, we will not involve ourselves.
Responsibility - We want consultants to feel a sense of ownership of the business and to take responsibility for themselves and the company’s work as a whole. There is a minimum of line management and maximum autonomy in the way people work and live at Global Integration. We all take collective responsibility for the business and support the people within it.
Mutuality - We believe in long term, mutual, fair and open relationships with all partners/companies involved in our business, both internally and externally. We will act completely ethically within these relationships. Mutuality works both ways and we will expect this to be reciprocated. If relationships are not mutual, we will walk away from them.
Efficiency - We focus only on what we do best. All other activities should be eliminated, minimized, automated or outsourced. Ours is a simple business and it should stay that way.
Freedom - We need freedom to shape our future; we need profit to remain free. For a small company, cash flow is the primary driver; if we have cash then we have freedom to grow and invest without any third party involvement. On an individual basis we want to maintain the personal freedom that our work style provides us in where and how we live.
