Matrix management – cutting the problem down to size
Many organisations who introduce a matrix management structure have found that there is an initialĀ tendency for the matrix structure to go too far down into the organization. Matrix management is complex and should only be used where the added value exceeds the added cost and complexity.
In this video Kevan Hall cuts the problem of matrix management down to size by focusing on the very different needs of senior leaders, locally oriented staff, and the “matrix middle” population in the centre of the organisation who really need to learn the skills of matrix management.
By realising that not everyone needs to be impacted by matrix management, we can identify a much more manageable population to focus our matrix management skill building efforts on.
